Kompany didn’t overcomplicate things or dive into tactical jargon. He kept it simple — his players have freedom:
“This team has earned the right and the freedom to play like this. They play so well that I’m not going to change the approach depending on the opponent. We played the same way against Paris Saint-Germain and today against Madrid. And they performed just as well. The substitutions I make are only to refresh the team.
I remember when I was a player and we had these kinds of matches — what you wanted was the freedom to be yourself. Then the talent takes care of the rest. Everything else is marginal, and I try to make those marginal details fall in our favor.”
